1939 until 2019: The St. Mesrob scouts completed a period of 80 years from the day when 80 years ago two monks with a chivalrous spirit, Father Boghos Aris and Father Boghos Bzdigian, founded Mesrobian High School and sprouted the big family of St. Mesrob Scouts, for which we will express our deep gratitude even after 80 years.
The group of St. Mesrop Scouts was created at Mesrobian High School in 1939, when the elementary department of the school had already started operating. The scout troop was founded in this year, after which, noticing the enthusiasm of the children and the development of the troop, the Wolf pack was created in 1954 and the Elder Scout group in 1955. Based on these successes, S. Mesrob scout group gradually prospered, and various branches were founded: the Beaver’s Scouts group in 1983, the Arenush group in 1986, the Barmanuhi group in 1990, and finally the Farandoles in 2004.
80 years ago the first book of the Armenian Scout was published under the title "Old Wolf". A few years later, a group of young people collaborated to publish a special scout newspaper under the name "Paros"(lighthouse). The first “Paros” was published in January 1988, and many years later we are proud to publish not only the newspaper but also the book called ‘’Paros’’.
The main vision of the history of this glorious 80-year-old family has been "Always be ready to serve and to do our best, always staying true to our promise to move forward honorably in order to shape the exemplary man of the future," for to be “Ari” or “Arenush” means to be armed with decency, respect and self-confidence, having as a motto “to give without counting, to work without seeking rest and to sacrifice without waiting for the reward of the other.”
Today, more than 200 members are part of St. Mesrob Scouts’ large family and they remain true to their Scout promise, bringing honor to their group leaders and to all those who have worked for 80 years and still work to keep the group's eternal torch alight.
On the happy occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of St. Mesrob Scout Group, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the members, current and former religious leaders, superiors, who have been members and served within St. Mesrop's group.
