Mesrobian Cultural Celebration: The Significance of the Feast of the Holy Translators in Our Times
Mon, 26 Oct 2026

Organized by Mesrobian Armenian Catholic High School, a cultural celebration dedicated to the Feast of the Holy Translators was held on October 23, 2026, at the Nerguizian Auditorium of the Armenian Catholic Holy Savior Church, under the theme “The Significance of the Feast of the Holy Translators in Our Times.”

The event was attended by Bishop Grigor Badishah, Auxiliary Bishop of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate; Very Reverend Father Mashdots Zahterian, Patriarchal Vicar of the Congregation of Bzommar and Superior of the Monastery of Bzommar; priests of the Congregation of Bzommar and seminarians, as well as representatives of cultural associations and members of the cultural community.

The celebration featured a rich artistic program performed by Mesrobian alumni. The event was hosted by Mrs. Maral Harboyan, President of the Mesrobian Alumni Association.

The program opened with the screening of “The World in Armenian,” a short cultural film dedicated to the Holy Translators. Created using artificial intelligence technologies, the film was written and produced by Mr. Vartan Tashjian, Head of the Information Department at Mesrobian, and produced by Mesrobian High School. It highlighted the invaluable legacy of the Holy Translators, connecting the achievements of the Golden Age of Armenian literature with contemporary efforts to preserve and promote that heritage.

Following the opening remarks delivered by Mrs. Maral Harboyan, Mary Ekmekjian recited Barouyr Sevag’s poem “And a Man Named Mashdots.” Maria Jessica Hasholian then performed “The Soldier’s Song,” accompanied on guitar by Jean-Pierre Vartanian.

The keynote speaker was Very Reverend Father Anton Atamian, a distinguished Armenian Catholic clergyman. In his address, Father Atamian explored the invention of the Armenian alphabet, the translation movement of the fifth century, and the significance of the literary heritage left by subsequent Armenian writers and chroniclers. His reflections extended to twentieth-century Armenian authors, who, through their literary works, became interpreters of the Armenian people's complex and often contradictory experiences throughout the centuries.

The artistic program continued with Garo Tashjian’s rendition of Father Atamian’s composition “Armenian Symphony,” followed by performances of Komidas’s “Hov Arek” and “Yerkinkn Ampel A” by Cassia Levonian and Nanor Arnelian.

At the conclusion of the celebration, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust, Principal of Mesrobian, delivered his message, emphasizing that the Holy Translators were great innovators of their time who placed new knowledge and opportunities at the service of their people's enlightenment and advancement.

On this occasion, Mr. Kaloust announced an important new educational achievement at Mesrobian: the completion of a new Armenian History curriculum and accompanying textbooks, whose pilot versions have already been introduced in Grades 3 through 11.

The Principal also expressed his particular appreciation for the film “The World in Armenian” and extended his sincere gratitude to its creator, Mr. Vartan Tashjian, for successfully placing modern technology at the service of Armenian cultural heritage.

At the end of the ceremony, as a token of gratitude and appreciation, the Principal presented Very Reverend Father Anton Atamian with a commemorative award bearing the emblem of Mesrobian High School.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the essential responsibility of preserving, developing, and transmitting the Armenian language, literature, and cultural heritage to future generations in light of the challenges of our times.
