The Armenian language is the main basis of our identity, and grammar is the guideline for keeping that language correct and pure.

Now in its fifth year, the beautiful tradition established between the two sister schools, the Armenian Catholic Holy Cross Harboyan and the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High Schools, took place again this year, bringing together sixth-grade students around a unique grammatical development competition of the Armenian language.

On the morning of Monday, May 18, 2026, an enthusiastic atmosphere reigned in our school’s Farajian hall.

The students were divided into seven groups, each consisting of eight people. After the greeting and welcome speech of the head of the elementary school department, Mrs. Salpy Moughalian, a sixth grade student, Serly Ishkhanian, delivered an opening speech, stating that we have the opportunity to meet, get to know each other, learn together, and discover our abilities every year through various developmental competitions. This year, we will also have the opportunity to combine the linguistic and grammatical knowledge we learned in elementary school, while at collaborating with each other and creating new friendships.

During the competition, group and individual recitations took place, such as the poems “Old Blessing”, “I Am My Sweet Armenia”, “Antasdan”, “Don’t Interfere with Us” and “To Ararat”.

The students showed active participation, answering all the questions with enthusiasm and accuracy.

During the competition, the jury made impartial assessments.

The Principals of the two schools spoke, praising this initiative, which has been contributing not only to the development of knowledge for five years now, but also to the creation of beautiful relationships between students. Over the years, it has been appreciated by everyone, becoming an expected and beloved educational tradition.

They expressed their appreciation to the Armenian language teachers, Mrs. Nora Tazian and Mrs. Markrid Azadian, for their hard and consistent work, and wished them strength and courage to persevere and continue their mission, in order to always organize such successful events.

Then the jury announced the name of the winning group, whose members received valuable gifts. All participants received souvenirs, as well.

This initiative once again proved that learning the mother tongue can be not only useful, but also a pleasant and unifying experience.

After a commemorative group photo was taken at the end of the competition, everyone left with new knowledge, beautiful impressions and an increasing love towards the Armenian language.
