On April 27, 2026, a soul-stirring and meaningful ceremony dedicated to the martyr of the Armenian Genocide, Saint Ignatius Maloyan of the Entire Catholic Church, took place at Mesrobian High School. In a warm atmosphere of piety, the educational family of the school, led by the Principal, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust, came together to honor the memory of the saint and renew the vow to adhere to his example of loyalty and sacrifice.

The solemn ceremony was presided over by the venerable Monsignor Mashdots Zahterian, the Bzommar Monastery Superior, accompanied by the school’s chaplain, Father Sahag Keshishian, and the fathers of the Bzommar Order. The images of Saint Ignatius Maloyan were blessed with special prayers and spiritual songs, which, according to Father Sahag’s brilliant idea, will decorate all the classrooms of the school, becoming a source of inspiration for the students. In his message on this occasion, Monsignor Zahterian urged the students to always keep in mind two important values, for the love of which Saint Ignatius did not hesitate to sacrifice his life: national and spiritual identity, as well as dignity. The day’s significance was crowned with the solemn unveiling of a magnificent mosaic of the saint on the school’s administration floor.

Saint Ignatius Maloyan (1869-1915), the religious leader of the Armenian Catholic Diocese of Mardin, became an immortal symbol of faith and self-sacrifice during the Armenian Genocide. Rejecting every offer of conversion, he preferred martyrdom, along with his flock. For his unwavering faith and holy life, in 2001 he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, and in 2025 he was officially canonized by the Universal Church.

This initiative gives new strength to the mission of Mesrobian High School to keep the Christian faith and national values ​​alive in the souls of Armenian students.
