On February 11, 2026, Mesrobian High School commemorated the heroic battle of Vartanants and the memory of the heroes who died for their religion and homeland with a special celebration that united students, teachers and parents in the school’s main courtyard.
The celebration started with a speech by Jessica Khasholian, after which the attendees listened to the song ‘Brave Vartan’, performed by a group of students from grades 1, 2 and 3. This was followed by recitation, musical and song performances by students from various grades, as well as theatrical readings, all dedicated to the resplendent sacrament of the day.
During the celebration, the speaker, Brother Boghos Emishian, spoke, emphasizing first of all that the Battle of Vartanants was crowned with the victory of the Armenian spirit and identity, because the Vartanants did not deny their faith and shed their blood as a testimony, thanks to which Armenians remain Christian to this day.
Brother Emishian observed that the spirit of Vartanants has shone many times throughout our history, as, centuries later, in the person of Saint Ignatius Maloyan, who again, in the most hazardous times, testified with his blood that the Armenian is a man of principle, does not compromise and always remains faithful to his nation and faith.
The speaker said that even today, we are often required to compromise our faith, values and truth, but it is our duty to remain courageously steadfast on the path of holiness.
The ceremony ended with the song ‘Himi el lrenk, performed by the 5th and 6th graders, and then with the closing speech of the school’s Principal, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust. The Principal described as the fact that 1575 years after the Vartanants Batlle, the Armenian people continue to commemorate this heroic event very significant, because it is one of the greatest symbols of the Armenian identity and faith’s struggle for survival. He observed that after the Zoroastrian Persians, other hostile forces also tried to subjugate us over the centuries, but the Armenians always emerged victorious from that struggle.
Mr. Gregoire Kaloust called on students to participate in community-wide events dedicated to the Feast of St. Vartan on February 12th, to reaffirm their promise to remain worthy of the honor and responsibility of being Armenian.
