Mesrobian’s graduate student, 2025 laureate of the school’s ‘Kevork Hajian’ award, Perla Jawharji, returned from Armenia where she participated in the Hamazkayin Cultural Association’s annual student cultural gathering, the Hamazkayin Forum.
Perla summarized her impressions in the following lines:
"This experience changed my life. I was able to reconnect with my roots, to better know who I am as an Armenian. I discovered our rich heritage - music, dance, and even our alphabet. I met new friends who are like family to me today, a part of my life.
During this trip, we visited historical monuments, old churches that tell the story of our homeland. I saw landscapes that I could not even imagine. At the end of each day, we would all gather together to enjoy dinner, as if we had known each other for many years. I felt at home: everyone understood each other, everyone laughed together and everyone was very interested in their culture.
I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity. I am so grateful for this experience that has changed my life in a positive way. I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity which I will always remember."
It should be noted that the ‘Kevork Hajian’ Award was established at the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School in memory of Kevork Hajian, a martyr of the 44-day Armenian-Azerbaijani war of 2020 and a former Armenian teacher at the school. Thanks to him, a Mesrobian graduate student participates in the Hamazkayin Forum which traditionally takes place in Armenia each year.
The award was named and materialized by the donation of two former Mesrobian alumni who were students of the martyr Kevork Hajian. The administration once again expresses its gratitude to the donors and its greatest satisfaction for Perla's beneficial experience.
