As part of the activities of the Guidance and Counseling Department of Mesrobian Armenian Catholic High School, Ms. Sabine Gorgodian, the school’s psychologist, held 13 separate meetings and discussions with the students of the school’s different departments, as well as with the students of Mesrobian Technical College, from February 15 till March 15, discussing with them a number of mental and behavioral health issues that are critical for today's students of different ages.

Starting with the Grade 5 to the secondary school students, Ms. Gorgodian discussed the phenomenon of stress. She presented to the students the ways that enable them to detect it in a person and described the methods with which someone can effectively deal with the stress that is disturbing him and harming his daily activity. The psychologist also explained a number of techniques to overcome stress through practical work and presented their impact on the person.

Ms. Gorgodian spoke to the students of Mesrobian Technical College about three different subjects. Starting with the importance of having a friend in one’s life, she then discussed social media and its effect on teenagers (which was also presented to students of grades 7 to 9) after which she pointed out to the importance of building awareness about various forms of abuse.

The psychologist emphasized the value and significance of a friend in someone’s life, as a person in whom one can confide especially when sharing one’s difficulties or worries and whose presence is paramount in overcoming the barriers caused by loneliness in the human mind. Then Ms. Gorgodian talked about social media and, together with the students, made an assessment of its benefits and the damages it might cause, stressing that young people should use it wisely, in terms of the time and the resources they allot to it, as well as of their interactions with other users. Finally, the psychologist explained to the students the various types of abuse to which teenagers can be subjected in various environments, by familiar or unfamiliar people, such as physical, mental and sexual abuse, suggesting a number of means to prevent them. Ms. Gorgodian also referred to the reasons of narcotics abuse and the harm they cause.

It should be noted that the Guidance and Counseling Department of Mesrobian High School comprises four specialists: Mr. Zaven Teghlian (coordinator of the department, social worker), Ms. Sabine Gorgodian (psychologist), Ms. Sarine Bekeredjian (speech therapist) and Ms. Narod Khederlarian (psychomotor therapist), who perform their professional duties for the benefit of the students and the school.
