The Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School launched the "Silence, We’re reading!" project, according to which all members of the school's educational community - students, teachers, administrative staff, and employees- are invited to read their favorite book in silence at a specific time every day (from 8:20 to 8:35 a.m.).
The project mainly targets the students’ education, taking into account that daily reading contributes to language learning and its mastery, and knowledge acquisition, in addition to developing the readers’ imagination and creativity. It is also beneficial for everyone, since the short but very important silent time accompanying the reading promotes calmness and concentration.
This is how the project is implemented. At 8:20 a.m., the school bell sounds, followed by soft music for 15 minutes. During this time, everyone in the school reads. Even the parents or other people who happen to be in the school at that time are invited to take a book and read during those 15 minutes.
The administration of Mesrobian College values greatly this event and wants to make it a ritual. In the following days, the project will be introduced to the students and thoroughly explained to them in order to guarantee its successful implementation. In a circular addressed to the staff, the management stresses the importance of the teachers' and employees’ commitment to becoming good models to follow in order to gather the whole school around this common project.
