A modern Lebanese Armenian kindergarten has become a necessity for the Lebanese Armenian community of Bourj Hammoud where Mesrobian Armenian Catholic kindergarten operates since 1939.
The demand for better education is growing fast in this community. People see educational services improving everywhere, and they want their children get the best.
There is no a preschool institution in the area that fully meets the aspirations of the families regarding the education of their children. These families need an academically well based institution with a Christian Armenian cultural and religious orientation.
Mesrobian kindergarten is the preschool institution that best fits to serve as a moral and organizational groundwork for that modern kindergarten to be established on.

The kindergarten is located at Bourj Hammoud, an industrial city close to the Capital city of Beirut. Bourj Hammoud is home to around 5 thousand Lebanese Armenian families, most of who live on modest incomes. The Armenians of Bourj Hammoud are the descendants of the refugees of the early 20’s that came to settle in Lebanon escaping persecutions and massacres in Turkey. Mesrobian kindergarten was one of the first formal Armenian educational institutions established in Bourj Hammoud , where most of the refugees’ camps were settled, during that hard era of trauma and social adaptation. Ever since the kindergarten has become a cherished educational institution that has served tens of thousands of children among whom many are now grandfathers and grandmothers of children currently attending it.
Mesrobian kindergarten has managed to become a successful educational institution characterized with high academic achievements and organizational vitality. The staff of qualified administrators and teachers and the thoughtfully devised educational program have made of Mesrobian kindergarten a favorable preschool institution for many Armenian Lebanese families who acknowledge Mesrobian as an educational environment where a strong intellectual, physical and social foundation for their children’s future is built, along with the moral formation based on Armenian cultural and Christian religious values.
The confidence of people in the educational services of Mesrobian kindergarten is growing at a significant scale. Mesrobian is one of the few Lebanese Armenian kindergartens that during the past years has seen a constant rise in students’ number. In 2005 the kindergarten had 180 students. Today the number of the students is 210 with a tendency of rising more. Every year more and more families are applying for daycare service for their children at the nursery operating at its full capacity since its inception 10 years ago.
Given all these, the administration of Mesrobian Armenian High School plans to build a new and larger kindergarten (nursery included) with modern facilities serving up to 350 children from Bourj Hammoud and Greater Beirut area.
The administration firmly believes that this project is sustainable financially and serves to the common good of the society in the area mentioned. We would like to underline that no local financial resources are available for the realization of this project, which would make a great impact on our community.
