"Birthright Armenia" - Mr. Sevan Kabakian

On Thursday, the 17th of November 2011, at 10:30 AM, Mesrobian High School welcomed Sevan Kabakian, the country director for «Birthright Armenia». And after having a close conversation with the school principal Mr. Gregoire Kaloust and the director of the extracurricular activities of the school Garine Tashjian, Sevan Kabakian met with the 10th and 11th grades students in the school’s «Farajian» auditorium.

At first, the director of the extracurricular activities of the school Garine Tashjian presented the guest of the day to the audience, saying « Our guest is Mr. Sevan Kabakian, the country director for «Birthright Armenia». Birthright Armenia (also known as Depi Hayk) was founded in 2004. And as any organization, «Birthright Armenia» pursues also a number of aims through its work and projects, by focusing its attention essentially on patriotism ». Afterwards, she quoted Sevan Kabakian’s words during a meeting with Seyran Ohanyan, the Defense Minister of Armenia. His words were as follows: «Such meetings with the young people are very important for the organization, for these meetings aim at teaching patriotism to the young Armenians living in the Diaspora ». Then, Garine Tashjian presented Sevan Kabakian’s biography. After that, she invited the guest to make his speech.

Sevan Kabakian didn’t talk more than 45 minutes, yet he talked sincerely and cordially by presenting «Birthright Armenia» to the audience, through a PowerPoint presentation in order to let the meeting be more pleasant. The presentation also gave the students the chance to be introduced to all the volunteers with their names and country of origin who visited Armenia, coming from many countries around the world. Moreover, the students were able to see, through the presentation, the work done by the volunteers and the services provided by them in Armenia, as well as the Armenian families who have welcomed them in addition to the organization and its activities in general, from the day it was founded.

At the end of the meeting, the students had the opportunity to ask the country director about subjects in which they were interested. Sevan Kabakian answered with the greatest pleasure and gave the students detailed information.
