A Meeting with Mr. Garegin Chookaszian

On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School welcomed the Armenian intellectual Mr. Garegin Chookaszian. And after a short meeting-conversation in the school principal’s office, Mr. Chookaszian met with the students of the secondary section in the school’s «Farajian» auditorium.

At first, the director of the extracurricular activities of the school Mrs. Garine Tashjian presented briefly the guest of the day, by mentioning principally that the paternal grandfather of Mr. Chookaszian who was born into a well-known family from Sivas, was in Antranig’s army volunteer corps. And when the patriotic Chookaszian family went back to Armenia, his father Papken Chookaszian took up, for many years, the post of assistant director of Mashdots Library in Yerevan, and his brother Levon Chookaszian is a great linguist.

Also, by talking about Mr. Garegin Chookaszian, Garine Tashjian said that « In 1997, he was the director of the Department of Information and Publications of the Republic of Armenia. He also implemented the first Armenian Satellite TV Channel in the nineties. During the same period, he founded the Armenian Association of « E-Content » and became its president ». In her speech, Garine Tashjian also mentioned that Mr. Garegin Chookaszian is a great specialist in Information Technology and a political analyst as well as a member of «Sardarabad» movement. Then, the director of the extracurricular activities of the school invited the guest of the day Mr. Garegin Chookaszian to make his speech. At the beginning, Mr. Chookaszian talked remarkably and in general about the notion of technology from the simplest means of technology (book), used for the human development, to computer science and the wide opportunities that it gives. Then, Mr. Chookaszian talked in detail about the «E-Content» Association’s projects which were the four CDs; two of them were highly acknowledged by the Armenian community worldwide and were appreciated by medals. As for the work dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, it won the first prize given by the United Nations. Then, the students followed carefully the presentation of two CDs, one about the biography of « Gomidas Vartabed » and another one dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide that highly touched and interested the audience.

At the end of the presentation, the school Principal Mr. Gregoire Kaloust was thankful, in the name of the school, to the honorable guest for giving this great opportunity to know about the above-mentioned CDs which were the result of such enormous and difficult works that gave the audience the opportunity to feel, to enjoy and to be proud of the nation’s well-known persons and values.
