On Thursday, the 29th of September 2011, at 7:30 AM, the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School organized an event on the occasion of the new school year. The event took place in the presence of the students, the teachers, the members of the administrative staff and members of the parents’ committee, the parents, the relatives and friends who were all gathered in the schoolyard.
The schoolyard was decorated with tricolored balloons, as well as with a huge bulletin board symbolizing the new school year and the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia. Plus, a joyful and enthusiastic Armenian music was played during the event.
The event began with the Lebanese and Armenian national anthems as well as Mesrobian High School’s official anthem. Then, the parish priest of St. Savior church Father Sarkis Tavitian said a blessing prayer.

After that, a speech was made, in the name of the students, by a 12th grade student Lori Yeterian who said «The new school year brings with it work, effort and long school hours and puts an end to the long and free summer vacation. Our school opens its doors again for the Armenian student and continues its mission by educating the Armenian students. Every one of us has something to do. The devoted teachers do all they can do to provide us with the best and we, the students, are here to acquire all the necessary knowledge in order to succeed in our lives ». At the end of her speech, Lori Yeterian said « I’m convinced that together we will spend an unforgettable and successful new school year that coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia, our very lovely motherland. Welcome back to every Armenian student who is coming again to his second lovely and receptive home which is the Armenian school that is celebrating its 72nd new school year ».

Lori Yeterian’s speech was followed by the speech made especially by a group of students of primary cycle. The speech was entitled «Welcome back to school. Let’s get to know each other» through which two students from each class talked about their experiences and the rules established at school. In addition, they talked about some of the workers and the role they are playing at school. They also mentioned that the only thing that guarantees success at school is work, obedience and respect.

After that, the director of the « Office of Armenology Curriculum Development » of «Saint Krikor Naregatsi» center of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate Mr. Vartan Tashjian was invited to make his speech. At first, Vartan Tashjian congratulated all of them on starting the new school year, by mentioning that the administration of Mesrobian High School is doing everything to advance the school constantly. In his speech, Mr. Tashjian attached importance particularly to education as the highest aim of an individual to fulfill him\herself and he emphasized that completing an education is as much important as receiving it. He incited especially the parents to take always into consideration the importance of a good education within the families, particularly those who have children in higher classes, because these are already grown-up and brave individuals who can become aware of the importance of a good education in their lives.
Mr. Vartan Tashjian’s speech was followed by the speech of the school’s principal on the occasion of the new school year. The principal greeted them all by mentioning that this year there was an increase in the number of students at Mesrobian High School and this shows itself that Mesrobian High School enjoys a great trust for which he was very thankful, in the name of the school administration, to all the present and absent parents. In his speech, he mentioned particularly the first grade students «whom the KG3 class teachers were there today to guide to their classrooms so that our children understand that the primary cycle comes immediately after the kindergarten and that these two are only different sections of the same school ». Mr. Kaloust also talked about the new school year bulletin board by mentioning to them that the month of September is not only a month when a new school year begins but it’s also a month when the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia is celebrated. Therefore, he congratulated them on this occasion.
Then, with the aim of creating a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere for the beginning of the new school year, the school invited the well-known Armenian singer Hratch Gaydzagian whose performance was accompanied by the joyful round dance of the students along with some of the teachers.
At the end of the event, all the students went to their classrooms in order to start the new school year 2011-2012. Let’s mention that at the end of the school day, the first grade students went home taking with them balloons as a back to school gift.
