On Wednesday, 10
th of February, 2010, at 10:30AM, the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School's students, teachers, administration, parents committee and guests were gathered in "
AUC H. Boghossian" theatre to celebrate "
Vartanants Day".
The celebration begun with the Armenian and Lebanese national anthems, performed by the choir of the college. After that,
Tsoline Shahinian, a Terminal student, came up to the stage. She said: "
The unforgettable Battle which took place 1559 years ago was a battle who shaped the destiny of the Armenian nation. This unequal battle colored the pages of our history in red. However, for more than 15 centuries, the Battle of Vartanants remains in the memories of the Armenians as vivid historical chapter. The generations that followed the Battle were and will be nurtured by its spirit until the end of time."
Following that, the guest of the day,
Mr. Avo Guidanian, came forward to address his speech. Mr. Guidanian, the director of "
Voice of Van" radiostation, shared with the audience the fact that he has been a Mesrobian student and an alumni 25 years ago. In his speech, he emphasized: "
To celebrate a defeat for more than 15 centuries is a very uncommon phenomena in the History of Humanity. However, the Avarayr Battle comprises a moral vicory. Therefore, there are two folds of lessons to learn from this battle: First, defeat does not always mean that we have to change our beliefs; Second, there will always be traitors, but their names will be written in the black pages of history."
At the end of the ceremony, the distribution of prizes for a student contest took place.
Father Msgr. Vartan Ashkarian submitted 3 prizes to students from the fourth to the sixth grades who had prepared wall newspapers under the Vartanants theme. In his turn, Father Vartan received a bouquet of flowers from the administration of Mesrobian College for his name day.
