On Friday, 23rd of April, 2010, at 7:30AM, the students of the Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School were gathered in the main court of the college to commemorate
the 95th year of the Armenian Genocide.
The commemoration started with the Armenian and Lebanese national anthems, as well as Mesrobian School's official anthem. Afterwards, Aved Ashkarian, a Terminal student, came forward and addressed the opening speech to the students. In his speech, Aved recalled the bloody days of April 1915. He then invited all the students to live a life that dignify the memory of the 1.5 million martyrs.
An artistic program followed Aved's speech. Students from different grades performed by playing, singing, and poetry recitation.
Following that, Dr. Gosdan Yapoudjian, the chairman of Mesrobian Alumni Committee, came forward to share with the students the thoughts of the day. He reminded the students that they are the ones who will be hold responsible for the Armenian Cause in the future. Therefore, he continued, it is imperative to get educated in order to be able to continue defending the Armenian Cause. But how to defend the Armenian Cause? By living a good, fruitful life, striving for the best in higher education, and fulfilling a professional career. It is, then, the duty of all to serve the nation and not to pursuit own interests.
Afterwards, Mr. Gregoire Caloust came forward and submitted gift books to those students who excelled in the preparation of wall newspapers with the Armenian Genocide theme. He then encouraged everybody to be proud of being Armenian. Very soon, he believes, the Armenian Genocide will be accepted by the Turkey and justice will triumph.
At the end of the commemoration, Father Sarkiss Tavitian, the priest of St. Savior parish, blessed the students and prayed with them the Lord's Prayer.
