All throughout the school, a festive spirit was domineering on Friday, May 2, 2008, because everybody at the Mesrobian School was celebrating the traditional
Mesrobian Day starting from 7.30 a.m. until 2:10 p.m., the teaching and the administrative staff, as well as the students all celebrated the
Mesrobian Day , which had become a dear and a long-waited event.
The opening speech of the celebrative day was announced by the principal of the school,
Mr. Gregoire Kaloust who said that, that was the day which had become a tradition and which takes place by the organization of the
Mesrobian Alumni in cooperation with the Mesrobian High School. The principal ensured that all were going to spend a happy day and they started the celebration by singing the national anthems of Lebanon, Armenia and the school-anthem.
Then, the vice parish priest of the Armenian Catholic Saint Savior church,
Father Garabed Tateossian officially opened the festival - day by his benediction, and invited the teaching and the administrative
staff, the students, the parents' committee, the Mesrobian Alumni committee members to begin the day by singing the spiritual song, "Our Father" .
Then,
Dr. Krikor Edjidian, the president of the Mesrobian Alumni said "
Dear members of Mesrobian School this is the third year that "Mesrobian Day" is being gloriously organized. It's the holy mission of this school to give qualified education, prepare good individuals and good Christians. It's part of the school's purpose to create a social, pleasurable and warm environment, the establishment of strong bonds between students and the strengthening of school-students relationship. With this aim in mind, the previous Mesrobian Alumni committee began this novelty, appropriating a whole day to this purpose, of having a pleasant and enjoyable day of entertainment to all". Continuing his speech, Dr. Edjidian ensured that this enterprise would succeed because the Mesrobian Alumni embarks in this task whole-heartedly and because the direction of Mesrobian School backs this initiative unreservedly, and because they work with all their heart and spirit to prepare for this Day.
The students of this school who have graduated five years or thirty years ago all assemble at Mesrobian School because they consider it their second home. Perhaps they return with whitened or grayed hair, but they are happy by returning to school and seeing the present students and hand in hand accomplishing the celebration of the
Mesrobian Day. They say, they adore the Mesrobian School, they are proud of the Mesrobian School and they are happy at the Mesrobian School. Thus, ending his speech, Dr. Edjidian wished all to have a happy and amusing day.
Then, the already planned program was executed. Several basketball and football games were played and at the end of the day, cups were distributed to the winning teams by the athletics committee.
A rich cultural program was also presented by the students from grade I until Secondary II. Talented students participated by songs, music, dances, poetry and drama. This program was announced by two graduating-class students: Nayiri Boussouyan and Avo Karakeshishian. There was also a drawing contest in this cultural program, where students participated in groups according to their classes. An interesting initiative was the coloring of clay candle sticks by the students, who after coloring them, took the candle-sticks home as a souvenir. This cultural program started at 10:00 a.m. and lasted until 1:00 p.m.
All throughout the day, food and sandwiches and refreshments were sold by the
Parents' Committee. The committee also collaborated with the "Nestlé" company, who distributed chocolate drinks and corn flakes to the students.
There were also many games being guided by the scouts of the St. Mesrob and the members of the graduating class.
This happy day ended at 2:10 p.m. when everybody returned home with contented - hearts having passed a memorable and unforgettable merry day, the "Mesrobian Day" of the year 2008.
