On Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. took place the opening of the Lebanese Armenian artist and talented painter Hovsep Kasparian's individual, third exhibition at the H.G.M. (Armenian Catholic Union's) Hall. The exhibition which was patronized by His Beatitude
Nerses Bedros XIX Catholicos Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics and was presided over by His Excellency Dr.
Vahan Der Ghevontian Ambassador Extraordinary and Planipotential of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon. The opening was performed by His Excellency Father Vartan Bishop Ashkarian and His Excellency the Ambassador Mr. Vahan Der Ghevontian and the painter Hovsep Kasparian, in the presence of the responsibilities of Mesrobian Technical College and Mesrobian High School, the administration and the teaching staff, as well as the painter's family members, relatives and a huge number of amateurs.
The speaker of this opening, Miss Talar Kazandjian invited Mr. Gregoire Kaloust, the principal of Mesrobian Technical College to give his speech. Mr. Kaloust first expressed his deep gratitude to His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX for patronizing this enterprise and to Mr. Vahan Der Ghevontian, absolute ambassador of the Armenian Republic in Lebanon for being the president of this enterprise. Then he added, "The art of the painter Hovsep Kasparian is unique. Through his paintings, he defends the rich values of the Armenian Culture and undertakes the spreading of these values worldwide. In this way introducing the Armenian man who thrives for reality and protects justice, but always remaining loyal to his artistic soul. Taking all this into consideration the Mesrobian Technical College has organized this exhibition which was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Mesrobian Technical College's foundation. In this way the Mesrobian Technical College reaffirmed its support to young Armenian painters and artists, as it had done in the previous years by organizing successive exhibitions of other Armenian painters.
In his speech, Mr. Kaloust insisted that this institution was founded twenty-five years ago in the densely Armenian populated area of Bourj Hammoud. It had gone a long way and for the sake of the progress of new Armenian generations, it still has new perspectives of improvement. Then, the principal heartily congratulated the staff of Mesrobian Technical College, as well as the painter Hovsep Kasparian "for his devoted service to the Armenian culture, also for fulfilling vast improvements in the field of panting." And wishing him the greatest success in serving the Armenian culture the evangelizing it.
Mr. Gregoire Kaloust completed his speech by thanking St. Savior Church's parish, who had kindly put "U.A.C."s hall under their disposition and hence aided in the realization of this exhibition.
The principal's speech was followed by the speech of His Excellency the Ambassador Dr. Vahan Der Ghevontian's speech. Dr. Vahan greatly appreciated Mesrobian Technical College's activities. He specially mentioned the opening ceremony of the lately founded monument of St. Mesrob in the school yard, and now the painting exhibition of Hovsep Kasparian. The ambassador highly evaluated the importance of Mesrobian Technical College for the education and progress of the Lebanese Armenians, and he added that "its role is not only here, but also it is in being the greatest Armenian educational institute and its important presence in the cultural life of Lebanese Armenian's. In his speech Dr. Vahan Der Ghevontian also greatly valued and admired the efforts of the principal of the school and his diligent works, by which the school has reached highest levels. He also appreciated the painter Hovsep Kasparian's works and wished him a good departure.
The closing speech was done by His Excellency Bishop Father Vartan Ashkarian, who said that he usually considered a work of art as being a godly vision because the artist, if he is a musician or a painter is inspired from nothing. He greatly appreciated the art of the painter and congratulated him, because through his works of art he had greatly evaluated the Armenian culture and present all this in a beautiful way to the amateurs.
All those who were present enjoyed the paintings that had taken two years of the artist's efforts.
The exhibition was left open for three consecutive days after its opening ceremony.
