On Tuesday, 13th of February 2007, at 10:30AM, Mesrobian High School celebrated Vartanants Day in AUC Hovhannes Boghossian Hall.
The opening speech was addressed to the presents by Daniel Akhrabian, a student in Grade 11. He emphasized that, since 451, several Armenian generations were nurtured by the heroic spirit of Vartan Mamigonian. Furthermore, he continued that the people like Vartan Mamigonian sacrifice themselves willingly, proving that the Armenian is proud about his faith and he is always ready to sacrifice himself like the ones who are now in Nagorny Karabakh and like Hrant Dink in Turkey.
A meticulously planned artistic program followed the opening speech. Students belonging to the school's choir and the dancing group took part within the program, by singing and dancing. Furthermore, a scene was prepared by the members of Mesrobian Messenger committee.
The guest of the day was Mr. Armen Urneshlian, the Armenology teacher in the Armenian Evangelical High School and in Haigazian University. Mr. Armen stressed on the importance of the Vartanants war and its impact on the present Armenian nation. "if a nation do not commemorate its heroes, it does not produce heroes anymore", was the idea on which his speech was focused. He also brought up Vasag Mamigonian, known as the traitor in the Armenian History, and stressed about the idea of betrayal. At last, he asked the present students "Dear student, you choose who you want to be: Vasag or Vartan".
Finally, Msgr. Vartan Ashkarian was invited to address the closing speech to the students. Msgr. Vartan thanked Mr. Armen for the latter's speech. In his turn, he called for patriotism praising Vartan Mamigonian and his men, who willingly fought the "dead or alive" war, sacrificing everything they have, in order to assure rich culture, language and religion for the future generations.
