On 21st of November, 2006, Mesrobian High School celebrated the Independence Day of Lebanon, under the high patronage of the Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, General Michel Suleiman, represented by General Panos Manjian, the Vice-President of Planning Directorate of the Lebanese Army.
At 10:30 in the morning, General Panos Manjian arrived to Mesrobian College and was welcomed by a special L.A.F. unit and military fanfare music.
Msgr. Vartan Ashkarian, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust, the Mayor of Bourj Hammoud Mr. Antranig Meserlian, as well as other noticeable political and religious personalities welcomed General Panos Manjian. They all headed towards Boghossian Hall where a ceremonial program was prepared by Mesrobian students.
The ceremony started with the Lebanese Anthem performed by the choir of the school. After which, Mr. Gregoire Kaloust addressed the opening speech to the presents. An artistic program followed the speech of Mr. Gregoire, where songs, poetries and folkloric dancing were performed by the students.
Invited to have a word, General Panos Manjian thanked God for the opportunity that was given to him to follow the steps of his father and become a military leader. He remembered that it was exactly 34 years before this day that he joined the Army. He also thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the L.A.F., General Michel Suleiman, for allowing him to celebrate the Independence Day in an Armenian Institution. Surprisingly, General Panos continued his speech in Armenian, by emphasizing the importance of a Lebanese Armenian citizen to get enrolled in the Lebanese Army. He ended his speech thanking the administration of the school for hosting him.
In his turn, Msgr. Vartan Ashkarian addressed the students to become good Lebanese citizens by becoming good Armenians. He taught them to love Lebanon and serve the Flag selflessly.
When the ceremony ended, the guest was received in the conference room, where he had a cozy meeting with the members of Mesrobian educational staff. He received souvenirs, one for him and one to be submitted to the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Michel Suleiman.
The guests took a tour within Mesrobian. The General left his impressions in the Memory Book of Mesrobian.
He left the school leaving behind him a day to remember.
