On the 21st of April 2006 at 7:30 in the evening, Mesrobian High School, in collaboration with Aztag, a Lebanese Armenian Daily Newspaper, commemorated the April 24, the Armenian Genocide committed by Turkey, in Hovannes Boghossian hall.
The program consisted mainly of a DVD presentation, prepared by Father Vartan Ohanian, general secretary of Mekhitarist Fathers' Monastic Order and Editor-in-Chief of Pazmaveb Review and arranged by Markar Toumanian.
Mrs. Gariné Tashjian, editor of Mesrobian Messenger, opened the commemoration ceremony by her speech, where she introduced the DVD to the public, emphasizing on the fact that the DVD presentation was not intended to be a comprehensive historical reference. It is rather a straightforward documentary to describe the incidents and events of that dark episode of the Armenian history.
The DVD, which was titled "The Armenian Genocide in Different Perspectives", presented original photos, never presented before, as well as lots of interesting historical facts and figures. It also analyzed the political backstage and the different decisions and attitudes of Turkish leaders of that time as well as the attitude of different nations nowadays vis-ŕ-vis the recognition of the Genocide. The DVD concluded by shedding some lights on the consequences of the Genocide on the Armenian fine art, especially on painting and sculpture.
The documentary was highly appreciated by the public, whose attention was grabbed for more than an hour, while viewing the DVD.
