
On Saturday, 25th of March 2006, at 7:30PM, under the high patronage of His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX, Catholicos Patriarch of the Armenian Catholics of Cilicia, and in collaboration with the Directors' Committee of the Armenian Catholic Schools in Lebanon, the Armenian Catholic schools in Lebanon, commemorated the 1600th Anniversary of the Armenian Alphabet, in a joint celebration which took place in Hovannes Boghossian Hall, in Bourj Hammoud.
The event was marked by the big number of the presents, among them the Lebanese Parliament depute, Serge Toursarkissian, the Lebanese ex-minister Jack Choukhadarian, Bourj Hammoud's mayor Antranik Messerlian, the central committee chairman of UAECNE Rev. Solomon Kilabian, as well as honorable fathers, school directors, teachers and other honorable guests.

At the opening of the ceremony, Mrs Zevart Najarian, Kevork Harboyan school's director, addressed the presents by a speach where she emphasized the value of the Armenian Alphabet.
The event was marked by its artistic program. Students from all participating schools presented Armenian Cultural dance, music, poetry as well as a theatrical presentation within the theme of the event.
During the artistic program, Mr. Raffi Ashkarian on his turn, addressed a speach to the presents, where he stressed his concerns regarding the current attitude of the Armenian youth towards his national identity and culture. He saw that the letters created by Mesrob Mashdots is not only a gift but also a way to preserve our national identity and to live freely together as Armenians.
The ceremony ended by His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX's blessings.
