On September 14, the staff of Armenian Catholic Mesrobian High School held its first ‘’Back to School’’ general meeting at ‘’Farajian’’ Hall.

Mesrobian’s Spiritual Superintendent Father Raffi Hovhannesian delivered the opening speech. Father Hovhannesian insisted that the pedagogues should be well aware of their duties, understand the needs of the students, boost their self-confidence, help everyone to stay firm on the path of knowledge and, most important, pay proper attention and take care of the weak ones, so they can move forward with everyone else along the path of development envisaged for all.

Mesrobian Principal Gregoire Kaloust made an overall assessment of the 2017-2018 academic year, mentioning that the School has attained very good results in the State exams: 124 students of the High and Technical Schools presented the exams and 119 of them succeeded (success rate of 96%).

Speaking of the novelties of the new academic year, Mr. Kaloust stated that a new triennial program, whose aim is to radically change the academic system of the school, will be implemented. The project’s manager is Dr. Colette Aoun, Professor of Pedagogy at St. Joseph University, Methodologist for Teaching and Teacher Training Specialist, who is appointed as the advisor to the director of Academic Affairs. According to this program and as of this year, English language will be taught from the first grade of the kindergarten, while maintaining the francophone direction of the School. A new course will be added to the curriculum: Manners and Good Behavior. Moreover, the significance of Computer Science courses will be boosted for all grades, and the use of technology in teaching, as well as the teaching of technological subjects and "Robotics" (in collaboration with STEM and the Little Engineer) will be encouraged. The collaboration with the universities and the international organizations will carry on in the fields of teachers’ training, students’ development and parents’ counselling. Educational programs will continue to take place after the end of the school day (‘’Busy Kids’’ and ‘’Punik’’), as well as the Saturday groups, and the orientation and social-psychological counselling offices.

Mr. Kaloust stated that the teachers should possess the values of mutual respect, initiative spirit, sincerity, discipline, consistency, tolerance, collaboration and broad-mindedness, to provide the students with the best education, thus aiding in the progress of the School.

During the second part of the meeting, Dr. Colette Aoun held a meeting with the teachers of Mesrobian, during which she presented thoroughly the aims, the key directions and implementation methods of the academic reforms.
